Bursting with quirky spirit and vivacious color, junior Shari Wei’s day-to-day style is anything and everything but ordinary.
Known for striking shades and perky prints, Wei displays a remarkably distinctive and dynamic flair for the unorthodox. Wei’s willingness to experiment with potentially clashing trends and motifs is refreshingly offbeat; she fearlessly mixes chunky platform boots with thrifted one-of-a-kind pieces, always aiming to incorporate at least one bright color into her daily looks. And to excuses such as “I could never pull that off” or “people will think it’s weird,” Wei simply responds, “Why limit your own creative expression because of the judgment of others?”
With such an extensive selection of clothing available nowadays, it’s easy to get caught up with brand name, mass-produced styles, but Wei stresses the importance of considering ethicality when purchasing from major retailers. Personally, Wei sources the bulk of her pieces from thrift shops and sweat-free labels, which offers her the dual benefit of a guilt-free conscience and an idiosyncratic closet.
“Don’t take clothes or fashion too seriously,” Wei said. “Always experiment with everything. It doesn’t matter if you follow trends or wear pieces that are more out of the norm as long as it’s what you feel best in. Take inspiration from the colors and patterns in [your] surroundings because anything can be considered fashion. Embrace the creative freedom!”
